What
is serviceElevator.com?:
Putting it simply, serviceElevator.com is
all about the fans and their love for Disney’s Hollywood Tower
of Terror attraction, Twilight Zone, and other Disney-related
interests. We see serviceElevator.com as a promotional tool with
the intent of celebrating and widening the fan community for
people who love The Walt Disney Company and The Twilight Zone.
serviceElevator.com was also created out of
respect and admiration for the late Rod Serling , who’s ideas
were always one step ahead of the times. A big portion of this
website is dedicated to the memory of Rod Serling.
Preface:
Picture if you will, 2 middle-aged
individuals, who worked long, continuous hours in their chosen
professions. On one cloudy day, they decided to disconnect from
the reality of their work place environments. They decided to
enter into a new dimension. A dimension not only of sight and
mind, but a dimension of pure escapism and entertainment. They
saw the sign post up ahead, tripped over it, and crossed into
the dimension known as……. serviceElevator.com!
Biography and Beginnings-from your Hotel Operator:
As a kid, I remember having dreams of
designing an amusement park or becoming a movie director (among
other things). Since none of these dreams became a reality, I
thought it might be fun to nurture the right side of my brain
(the side where art and creativity reside) and build a website.
It all kind of started like this. I grew up in Orange County
California, and one summer I found myself working for
Disneyland. It was a completely unplanned experience. I really
wasn’t looking for work as I already had a steady summer job as
a camp counselor. I guess you can say I was “referred” by a
friend to work for the mouse house. This “referral” led to the
interview process which eventually led to a nighttime job at the
park. I had to work in the evenings because I was a parade float
driver for the original Main Street Electric Parade. Short lived
as it was, I have some great memories from that experience and
still keep in touch with friends who continue to work with the
Electric Parade. But if I can fast forward a bit, the ideas for
this website really began back in a place called Orlando,
Florida. I desperately wanted to travel to Orlando to
experience a ride not yet built in the California parks. To
answer The Hollywood Tower of Terror’s beckon call, I knew I
needed to make that trip to the sunshine state. So after some
meticulous trip planning that even Clark W. Griswold would have
been proud of, I finally made my way to the Disney-MGM theme
park. Hot is an understatement to describe that July day.
Sweltering was more like it. I still remember the beads of sweat
dripping from my forehead as I waited anxiously in line at the
Disney-MGM studios to board the Famed Hollywood Tower of Terror
attraction. And what I experienced was nothing short of amazing.
Disney had done it again, but this time, they integrated their
magic with one of my favorite classic TV shows; The Twilight
Zone. Needless to say, I was hooked after my first ride.
Disney’s incredible attention to detail and architecture
(related to the attraction) still awes me to this day.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Disney’s
Hollywood Tower of Terror attraction remains my favorite theme
park attraction. I believe the theming on this ride is
brilliant. Combining the imagination of Disney with the Twilight
Zone theme resulted in a recipe for true thrills and excitement
and a high repeatability factor. My hat’s off to the myriad of
Disney imagineers who made this attraction what it is today---an
engineering marvel filled with enough sci-fi thrills to satisfy
any Disney Geek (self included).
But that’s not the whole story of how this
website came to fruition. Once I completed graduate school,
framed the diploma, and entered the daily grind of the 5 day
work week, I soon realized I needed an outlet. I needed a place
where I could go and escape the trappings of the day in-day out
routine. Moreover, somewhere in the midst of all this hustle and
bustle, I realized my inner child had abandoned me. Fortunately,
when I discovered Disneyland again in a whole new way, I also
rediscovered my inner child. I guess you can say it is my
reaquaintance with my inner child that helped lead to the
construction of this website. So in closing, I would like to
leave you with some incredible words of wisdom from the pen of
Mark Twain. “TWENTY YEARS FROM NOW, YOU
WILL BE MORE DISAPPOINTED BY THE THINGS YOU DIDN’T DO, THAN BY
THE ONES YOU DID DO. SO THROW OFF THE BOWLINES. SAIL AWAY FROM
THE SAFE HARBOR. CATCH THE TRADE WINDS IN YOUR SAILS. EXPLORE,
DREAM, DISCOVER”. Take it to heart! I sincerely hope
your stay at serviceElevator.com will be enjoyable one.
Cheers,
Your Hotel
Operator
